A Scandal In The Fashion World - who would have thought?!

I came across photographer Terry Richardson's work a lot when I owned my model agency. His work (mostly for Vogue) has always been controversial, walking a thin line of photography/pornography. One of his exhibition works for example was a shot of his own, um... you know - down there.

So I wasn't really so surprised to come across this article in the NY Post:

A week after we reported that model Rie Rasmussen recently confronted fashion photographer Terry Richardson for allegedly exploiting young models, another of his subjects has accused him of being a camera-wielding predator. “Of all the fine folks I’ve frolicked au natural for, he’s the only one who’s left me feeling like I needed to take two showers,” writes Jamie Peck on women’s Web site The Gloss.

After meeting Richardson at a party a few years ago, Peck, then 19, stopped by his studio for a shoot, where he asked to be called “Uncle Terry” while shooting her nude. On her second visit, she claims, Richardson got completely naked himself, had his assistant take pictures of Peck taking pictures of him, and eventually requested a sex act, “all the while casually mentioning his upcoming Miu Miu shoot with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Billy Crudup . . . and suggesting I come upstate with him and his fab celebufriends.” Richardson could not be reached for comment.

Lee Jeans used him a few years ago to shoot one of their campaigns - they reportedly paid him $150k - which just seems outrageous to me. The cost that is - I wonder if they got much return on their investment? They did get PR coverage for the shots, though probably not the kind they wanted - mostly complaints from an outraged public wanting the campaigned pulled. Check out the pics, see what you think:

Good afternoon all – did anyone rush to have a look at the collection like I did?

It was everything I would have expected from the talent Lee McQueen and more – Oh so much more!

The way he added so much structure to elegantly draped garments is truly amazing. He was a master tailor and transformed the models into amazing creatures that I for one did not want to take my eyes off of…

Here are my favourite looks from the collection – And I hope that just maybe I might be fortunate enough to own one of the pieces…

First of all belated Happy New Year!

What a year 2010 has been already! I was lucky enough to travel to the land of the rising sun (Japan) – what a truly beautiful and diverse country it was. My favorite city was Osaka; I could see myself living there.

What about the fashion you ask? It was AMAZING. The people have such immaculate taste and their attention to detail was breath taking.

Heels – Chunk it UP and girls stop buying those peep toes. Invest in shoes that are transeasonal – throughout the summer and now autumn there has been a trend to wear ankle boots. Ankle boots look fabulous with anything and everything – shorts, dresses, skirts and light trousers without looking like you are wearing a winter outfit – Do it! Look – if you love your peep toe’s then don’t let me stop you, but maybe look into purchasing a peep toe with very little toe peeping out!

Japan is the land of the labels. Almost every single person was carrying a designer handbag, yes even the men – Japanese men are man-bag CRAZY! I will and I am happy to admit that some men had bags that I was envious of! Did you know you can head to the Louis Vuitton site and purchase customised luggage and other products? Remember the Brittney Spear’s ‘Do Somethin’ video clip – With her LV customised Hummer… Hmmm

Did you know that you can wear up to 3 sets of fake eyelashes? Well apparently you can – Japanese girls love their fake eyelashes.

I tried a single pair and I kind of resembled a Manga doll and decided that fake eye lashes just weren’t for me. Here are some photos from my trip –

It's Been Ages.......

Since I've been on here and I must say that I've enjoyed the break from filing daily, ok, lets be honest, sometimes weekly missives. I'm feeling rather invigorated now and ready to get back on the writing track. Which is a good thing, since I have a book to write before the end of March. I've always been someone who thrives on deadline. I always have been. I remember handing in a major work for Art during my final year at high school. It was still wet. For me, there is nothing like the possibility of being confronted for not delivering what I have promised to get me from no gear to top gear. I slammed out my last book in record time and am so counting on a repeat performance on this one.

Over the last few months I've had to deal with so many issues with Nannies. Let me tell you about it. We had a really lovely girl living with us as an au pair for about 7 months. She was from Korea and wanted to go travelling (naturally) to see the rest of Australia. This is when the trouble began. Finding the replacement.

After a round of interviews, enter 'Sonya'. Having an au pair is a tricky thing because they live in your house. So you want to make doubly sure you have the right person. My idea to vet her properly was to take her down to our beach house for a few days with the outgoing au pair too, so they could do a bit of a handover and I could see what she was like to live with, without having her move in - just yet

It was a damn good idea because she lasted 48 hours before I booked her a ticket on a bus back to Sydney while simultaneously offering the outgoing au pair more money and a free flight to stay on longer so I could find the right replacement. Again, another round of interviews (they are so expensive - advertising - and time consuming) and in comes the new au pair, 'Kate'. Oh, how I wish this described her disposition. Not. When Narae was over all dressed up and ready to go to a function, 'Kate' was all depressed and whining to her that her life was so dull looking after children and she wanted to be out partying. Then there was the slight oversight on her part about the part of the job description that you absolutely had to have a driving license with an impeccable record. Which she didn't have. A driving license that is. Which we would have found out during the 'trial' period that was told to her, that she had to go through BEFORE moving in to the house. On day one, she turned up with all of her belongings. English was her second language. I have a feeling that she hadn't quite mastered it yet. On day two into the job, I was working in my bedroom (my favourite place to work by the way) and Saskia had been put down for her day time sleep. Narae was there working in the dining room just outside of Saskia's room. I assumed Sunny was doing some housework and would pick Saskia up when she woke up. Not so. When will I ever learn to not assume? Narae comes in and says, Sass is crying, do you want me to pick her up? I'm like, where is 'Kate'? So Narae picked up Sass and I went to search for the missing au pair who was in her room, asleep with ear phones on. Right. Mothers, this will need no more explanation.

For those of you who don't have kids - when a baby is napping, you always have an ear listening out for when they wake up. They're in a cot. They can't get out by themselves. So to be asleep with ear phones on, was just insane. So Sunny got fired. I am now officially an expert at firing people. I used to be scared of it. Petrified in fact. Not now. I feel like I could slip into Donald Trumps chair with ease. Another round of interviews and in comes 'Lisa'. Not a live in. We thought we'd try something a little different, you know, because we weren't having any luck. At first she was great. But recent events had taught me to not get my hopes up. Which was a good idea because I took her down to our beach house (yes, that little chestnut have served me so well before) which was stifling hot. I put Saskia down for her day time sleep with a fan focused on her - it was that hot that she was sweating bullets. When I went to check on her a little later and find the missing nanny, I found the nanny asleep on Jonah's bed with Saskia's fan turned around onto her. Which was facing the exact opposite direction of where Saskia's bed was. Saskia was now not just sweating bullets, she looked like she'd just taken a dip in the pool. Not good. Not good at all. That was enough for me to be turned off her for good. On the drive back to Sydney, I learned a few odd things about her that confirmed my feeling that she just wasn't 'the one'. So throughout this time, I've been keeping in touch with our first and fabulous au pair who had gone traveling. 'Come back' I practically begged. She was in Melbourne and I put her on the first plane back to us. I knew she wanted to do more with her life than be an au pair, so I planned to help her by putting her through a course. Grand plans. Everything was at last peaceful as she was like family. Then came the bomb.

February 16 2010 Continued....
Her parents wanted her to go back to Korea to complete her degree. Like, now. She was good enough to give me a few weeks notice but I was pretty guttered. At the same time though, I understood that it was the right thing for her to do. So back to the drawing board I went - this was about 4 weeks ago - so we've been help-free for a week now. More advertising, more interviews. We decided to trial 'Luci'. She was in her 60's, had a load of experience - we had our fingers (and toes) crossed. A more mature woman, we thought of all the upsides of that. No partying, staying up late, head screwed on right, won't spend a fortune on the internet etc.... So she turned up for her overnight trial. Nice lady. Then she tells me that she in fact has plans for the night and she will have to leave at 6pm to meet her friend at Parramatta and will have to take public transport. OK, I'm wondering why the hell she didn't mention this when she was offered the trial. Mothers know that 6pm is right in the middle of the night time rituals of baths, homework and dinner. I don't want her to leave at 6pm so what do I stupidly do? I offer her my car to drive. I often do these random acts of kindness only to end up with major regret. But I'm thinking that this will buy me more time with her and she can then leave at a more reasonable hour of 7:30pm. As the time draws near for her departure, I start to question my judgement - it didn't help that I had a woman reverse her car into mine earlier that day - so I ask to see her license, which was awkward. Especially when I go and photocopy it. It did ease my anxiety a bit though. So she says she will be back between 10:30 and 11.30pm. That's all good I say. Do you know what time she got home? 2:45am. Yes, you read that correctly. I did not sleep a wink. Even after she had got home.

All I could think of was where had she been and what had she been doing - in my car? So much for thinking that hiring a 60 year old would mean a social life with reasonable hours! Our first au pair - the great one - was 24 and she never got home past 8:30pm! Suffice to say that she did not get the job. Especially when the next morning she failed to apologise for coming home much later than promised or thanked me for the loan of the car.So there's an update of what's been occupying my time over the last couple of months. We still don't have a nanny or au pair. I'm gun shy. Brad and I have decided to juggle between us, until the football season starts again and Saskia starts Pre School next month a couple of days a week. I've put my needs out to the universe and hope it delivers me Marry friggin Poppins. Please!

We've now moved L'umiere Communications into a brand new office. This is exciting. The office is divine. We love it. So glam. The down side is I can't work in my PJ's anymore. I do have a big day bed though from which I do all of my work. Here are some pics -

We still have a lot of building work to do, but so far, so good.

This is going to be a great year for us - many exciting projects have been given the green light already and we can count Blackberry, L'Oreal and Sambag as some of our new clients. I have two books coming out. The first one that is to be released is one that I was asked to be a part of. It's a book profiling female entrepreneurs in Australia. The second is one I am writing with my gorgeous friend Terry Biviano about sport.

A couple of weeks ago we helped L'Oreal out on the launch of new products for their Kerastase range. We lined up Ita Buttrose to be the guest speaker to a room full of beauty editors from some of the best magazine titles in the country. She did such an amazing job and told me that she has her 10th (!) book coming out this year. It's an updated version of an earlier book about etiquette. I love Ita. She has been a role model of mine for such a long time. When she told me that she'd heard of my book, well I almost keeled over. She hadn't read it, just heard about it and I nearly died. Anyway, here is a pic from the night. The gorgeous girl in the middle is Natalie Perkov from L'Oreal.

While I am on the subject of celebrities, can I just say that KD Lang's performance at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony was UNBELIEVABLE. I love her too. Last year, one of my girlfriends who works for her record label called me up to ask a favor. She was looking after KD Lang and she wanted to go out on the harbour. One of my good friends has a very big boat, so we all went out with her for the afternoon. When I say 'all', I mean there were 7 plus the captain - so wonderfully intimate. I got to talk to her for ages and I became an instant fan. She graciously invited us to her concert and back stage afterwards. It was sensational. So the fact that it was one of my best friends up there on the stage at the opening ceremony was especially special! ;-) It practically bought me to tears. I should point out that we haven't spoken since she left Sydney. But I'm sure she will call soon, she's probably been busy preparing for the big gig.

So I'm back on-line. Sorry again, I know it must have been frustrating visiting a site that hasn't been updated for a while. Ok, a long while. But we're back now and I promise I won't leave you idle for such a long time again.
